Outdoor dining - Barbecues
Outdoor dining can be catered for in many ways. When designing an area for your barbecue or outdoor kitchen there will be factors to consider.
You should choose a sheltered spot just like were you would put a patio. The sunniest place, south or west facing is best and sheltered form winds if possible. If you are designing a garden from scratch then you can build your garden around this area as this will be the hub of activity for most people and families.
Outdoor cooking can be as simple as a barbecue grill either built in or a barbecue on wheels. Both do a good job but it is a personal choice to go for real coals or gas either way food always tastes better outside!
Tips for choosing a Barbecue
Gas grills - they heat up fast are easy to clean. The type of material that they are made of will determine the cost. The best stainless steel will withstand the weather and stainless steel grids will hold heat better. Start off cheap but keep it covered from bad weather and it will last longer.
If you have a problem with shade in your garden and you find you have two sunny spots one for the morning sun and one for the evening sun then a BBq on wheels is the best for you. Flexibility will encourage you to dine outside.
On the other had if you decide to build an outdoor kitchen then a grill built into the countertop with gas from the mains would be a good choice. You will never run out of gas!
Charcoal grills - For the more serious cook who like to takes their time and wants that smokey flavor then this is the way to go. Try and get cast iron grills which are better for heat retention and choose the size correctly to cater for your friends and family.
We know that coals will take some time to heat up so start early! but it is always worth it in the end.
Whichever way you go try and get a barbecue with a hood as it helps to retain the heat giving an oven effect when closed and if possible get one with a integrated thermometer to monitor the heat.
